Do you use a wireless router provided by your ISP?
Your passphrase may be vulnerable!
In less than 30 seconds this tool can calculate the passphrase for many popular wireless routers.

Enter the six digit Hex component of your wireless router ID (SSID)

Enter SSID: (Please allow up to 2 minutes for processing)
For example:
If your SSID is Bigpond1A2B3C or Thomson-1A2B3C enter 1A2B3C

Known ISP's that use these vulnerable wireless access points:
  • Bigpond Australia
  • BT United Kingdom - These use only four SSID characters but are still vulnerable. Coming soon.
  • Orange Spain
  • KPN Netherlands
  • Telenor Norway
  • Bouygeus Telecom France
  • Elion Estonia
MY KEY IS INSECURE! What should I do?
Many wireless routers obtained from ISPs include pre-configured SSID and WPA keys. These pre-configured settings may be insecure and unauthorised personnel may be able to calculate your WPA key from your SSID.

Devices that end with four to six random Hex characters in their SSID are vulnerable. If you have one of these very common devices ANYONE can connect to your network, watch what you're doing and use your Internet connection for illegal or unethical purposes,

Use this calculator to test the security of your wireless access point's WPA key for devices of this type.

Always generate your own complex WPA key and customise you SSID with something that doesn't identify you, your address, ISP or brand of device. I recommend >12 characters of mixed case letters, numbers and symbols. If you use an on-line generator, good practice is to generate a few, pick one and then manually change a couple of characters.

This is made possible by Kevin's code.
