Where is Rainbow Beach?

For Leisa's birthday we decided to head to Rainbow Beach in Queensland for some beachness and relaxation.

Day 1

To get here we flew from Canberra to Sydney via Qantas and then Sydney to the Sunshine coast on Jetstar. Discovered at this point why I always fly Qantas and vowed never to fly Jetstar again. We then drove from the Sunshine Coast airport to Rainbow beach. We just hired a Camry to do the trip. A great way to do the drive, makes you appreciate why you bought a German car! Vindicated! That aside, the trip up wasn't too bad and we where on the beach in no time.

Lot's of walking and checking out the local area. Plus swimming of course. The day ended with a nice meal in the local restaurant. Prawns and calamari to start... very fitting.

Day 2

Swimming, swimming and more swimming... Followed by a walk up the hill to see the sunset over the sand blow.

Day 3

Another day of not too much. A good afternoon of kayaking followed by another swim. You can never have enough swims. The kayaking had a little bit of a downer put on it when saw a dead dolphin on the beach, but lucky there were plenty of live ones in the water to make up for it... And a big turtle cruising on the wave which was the highlight. Big guy too, about 75cm.

Day 4

On our last day we drove across to Carlo Point and up to Inskip (departure point to Fraser Island) to see what else was around. Not much was answer, except some freaky (Mictyris) crabs on the beach. We then had a spectacular lightning show that night to farewell us. As you can see below some of them were so bright they lit up Rainbow Beach like day time.
